Because it is autumn, and everyone has to have something with pumpkin spice in it, McDonald’s is bringing back the mini Pumpkin Pie that they released last year. McDonald’s has a normal line of fruit pies that are actually quite tasty, if not too sweet. Apparently the pumpkin version was popular enough for another round, which you should be able to order at most locations now until sometime in November.
When a new item is released, I don’t like just stopping with the news of the day without giving you a little commentary, and I am going to do that here. After a little Googling, I found an interesting review of the McDonald’s Pumpkin Pie from Charles Lam of OCWeekly. In part, he says:
“This ‘pastry’ is effectively pumpkin pie filling wrapped with McDonald’s pie crust. It’s not fancy, and you shouldn’t it expect it to be. It’s not even packaged in its own box…Now, exactly what kind of flavor these pies are bursting with I’m not sure, but it sure as hell ain’t pumpkin. The pies barely taste like anything distinct, forgoing America’s favorite seasonal gourd for a plain, generic sweetness that’s unassuming, unoffending, but also unappealing.”
The McDonald’s pie actually has pumpkin in it, which is a lot more than most pumpkin flavored items coming out these days. But just because something has pumpkin in it…doesn’t mean you have to eat it.
